A WORD FROM THE PUBLISHER
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

Hi Fellow I-Maniacs!

Well, the San Diego ComicCon is upon us once again and
I m sure there will be much I-Maniac fun to be had.
Knowing that, I d like to request that if you do
attend the ComicCon and get together with any fellow
I-Maniacs or if you convert a non I-Maniac to join us,
or if you see any signs of I-Mania anywhere, please
write down your experience and send it to me at
imannewsletter@yahoo.com for inclusion in the next
newsletter so that all our members can live
vicariously through you.

After stating in the last newsletter that the What
Happens Next story would have to be retired without
an ending, as no one wanted the daunting task of
writing one, one brave I-Maniac decided to take up the
challenge. So we have an ending, and an excellent one
at that! Great job Workercaste!

Gina

<*><*><*><*><*><*>
A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

Greetings My Fellow I-Maniacs

With Comic Con less than a day away, I know that some
of you are gearing up & rarin' to go. Even though our
favorite cast will not be featured at Comic Con this
year thanks to the mullet heads over at SciFi, I know
that all of you will have a great time. With location
crawls, parties and Eddie's play to look forward to,
not to mention hanging out with some pretty cool fans,
a good time is sure to be had. Those of us not lucky
enough to be able to attend this year will no doubt be
living vicariously through all of you, so have a great
time and take tons of pictures!

The most pressing issue to date is, of course, the
Roswell Awards!
Right now Invisible Man and Farscape are in a heated
battle with fans of both shows voting feverishly and
overwhelming Chrissy.com with so many votes that I'm
sure the server is close to having a nervous
breakdown. We're getting there, I-Maniacs, our show,
not to mention the cast, are slowly moving up in the
ranks. But there is still work to be done, story of
our lives, right? But this is fun! We get to watch as
the Farscape team sweats and watches as the I-Maniac
team slowly catches up to them, it's the day of the
underdog my friends, and I don't mean the fan either!
*snerk*
Keep voting, send the copy & paste voting card to
everyone you know and beg, plead and blackmail them
into sending it in to Chrissy@webcom.com to place the
vote. What we need now is numbers, the more the
better. Get your favorite math teacher to vote, get
your fun-loving but often misunderstood boss to vote,
ask the secretary that gets the great donuts to place
a vote as well. Anyone and everyone that's willing to
help, sign 'em up. We're doing great, but we can do
loads better. Our guys deserve better than second
place, Farscape has been number one for far too long
now. I don't know about you, but I'm tired of the
view, I think it's time for a change of scenery. We
can do it and we all know that our show deserves it.
Keep up the great work I-Maniacs!
*chanting* We're number one, we're number one, we're
number one ...

As I mentioned briefly before, several lucky fans are
heading up to North Hollywood during Comic Con to
watch Eddie Jones perform in Death of a Salesman. For
those of us not lucky enough to live on the West Coast
or afford plane fare out there, we can still send him
good luck notes. Just email bookwormgirl at
aballinger89@yahoo.com and put "Project EJ Play" in
the subject line, then let Eddie know how proud you
are of him. Aimee will then compile all the letters
and send them off to be delivered to Eddie Jones.
Now's your opportunity to tell the 'Fish just how
great You think he is, even though he did "official"
Darien. *g*

To briefly sum up what coming up, we got some cool
stuff heading your way! Adel is gonna tell you all
about the Invisible Man music videos we got for sale,
thanks to Jeanette and Emerald. For those of you who
attended Imanicon back in April, you know what I'm
talking about. Those wicked cool vids of our favorite
characters from Arnaud to Darien and from Claire to
Eberts. We got 'em all and we got the songs to go with
'em. Shel will also have an update on all the
merchandise orders that have been placed for various
I-Maniacs memorabilia, the gals over at O:VI have an
update for us and to top it all off ... Perseus
Project has the mother of all announcements. It's
gonna blow your mind, folks. Bring out the HazMat
suits!

I've taken up enough of your time. Thank you all for
all of your continued support, thank you for loving
I-Man so much and thank you for showing it in all the
hard work that you're doing. To quote one of my
favorite movies, "Never give up, never surrender".
Go. Read. Enjoy.

MERCHANDISE UPDATE
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

Okay, all you folks who ordered merchandise, here is
the skinny....

Adel is emailing you all to confirm you orders. IF
YOU PLACED AN ORDER AND DID NOT GET A CONFIRMATION,
EMAIL ME AT shelbel@imaniacs.org. (Please guys- don't
hit "reply" to the newsletter. It goes into the
mailing list email, and then I-Mom or Gina has to
forward it to me- it gets to be confusing.)

I will be placing the order on Friday. I expect that
the items will be ready within 4 weeks at the most; I
will update you all as to a specific date as soon as I
have one from Mellin Promotional.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE! I wish we could have had
the stuff out in time for the Con, but I guess it was
just not to be this year. :( If you have any
questions, feel free to email me at
shelbel@imaniacs.org.

Thanks everyone!

OUR TREASURER SPEAKS
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

Greeting, my I-Maniac brethren! Adel here to bring
all you fine folks up to date on all things
merchandise. As you know, we had to extend our
cut-off date a few times. This was because we wanted
to be able to fill as many orders as possible. Since
ordering from us isn t like ordering from a catalog
(in that we have a stock supply that we can pull from
at any time), we had minimum amounts of each item we
had to reach before we can even place a request with
our printer. Unfortunately, some items were not in
very large demand. I have sent everyone a confirmation
of their order. In the event that some part of your
order will not be filled, I will let you know and I
will send you a check. ShelBel and I are still
shaking out all the numbers, but you should be hearing
from me within a week to 10 days.

In other news
Last April at I-Manicon 2002, a charity art auction
was held. Emerald got together all kinds of goodies
for the auction. A few of those items were some
original photo collages by our very own Paul
Ben-Victor. Some luck I-Maniacs went home with some
original art by our beloved Bobby Hobbes .
Think you missed out? Guess again, my friends! Paul
has decided to make some more of his collages
available to I-Maniacs ONLY. Keep your eyes on our
website (http://imaniacs.org/main.htm) because very
soon, you will be able to go to a gallery and
purchase yourself some lovely art. Paul is doing
limited (very limited) runs of 3 of his favorite
pieces and he wants us, the I-Maniacs, to have first
crack at them. So, break open your piggy banks, dig
in the sofa cushions, pull the cash out from under the
mattress, and get ready to purchase some art!
Details and images will soon be loaded onto the
I-Maniacs homepage, so check it frequently so you
won t miss out. If you have any questions, you can
contact me or our esteemed prez, R2.

BANNERS
We have been asked by I-Man fans to provide banners.
Your wish is our command! We would be more than
delighted if you helped us advertise this event by
displaying one of these banners at your own web site.
It doesn t have to be an I-Man site. It s for a good
cause so ask your friends to display one too!

GOOD PR
We want to generate world-wide curiosity in this
unique television series from which actual props and
wardrobe are being sold to fans at a special auction.
When you advertise The Invisible Man Props &

help promote The Invisible Man television series and
its terrific cast and crew! You may link the banner to
the perseusproject.com Preview Pages or to our Home

or make your own banner.

Good Luck to everyone!

SPECIAL EVENTS
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

Hi all!

First, I want to say hello to all my fellow
I-Maniacs attending Comic Con in San Diego this
weekend. The I-Maniacs have a dinner planned in
Downtown San Diego for Saturday night, location crawls
(to visit where I-Man was filmed) on Friday and
Saturday, and are traveling to North Hollywood to see
Eddie Jones in Death of a Salesman on Friday and
Sunday. I-Maniacs, take lots of pictures and be sure
to submit your con stories for the next newsletter!

Second, we re still looking for a location to hold
ImaniCon2003. If you have a city to suggest, please
email me at katrynsedai@imaniacs.org with the
following information:

City and State
Proximity to a major airport
Names of airlines that service that airport
Hotels in the area with room suites and meeting rooms
Prices of the hotel(s) rooms, meeting rooms & A/V
equipment rental
URL(s) (if available) for the hotel(s) website(s)
Discount on hotel rooms for con attendees?
Can we reserve a block of rooms?
Free transportation to/from airport & hotel?
Cheap eats nearby/walking distance from hotel
Tourist attractions nearby
Do you live nearby & can check out the location
personally?

We re really looking for hotels with meeting rooms,
which could hold between 50-200 people, plus A/V
equipment. Please try to be as SPECIFIC as you can
(e.g., SPECIFIC hotels with their URLs, SPECIFIC
airlines, etc.). The more information you can supply,
the better.

I will be accepting site locations suggestions until
AUGUST 31st. After this date, we ll be looking at all
the suggestions, doing more research, and compiling a
report on all the cities suggested. Once we have all
the information compiled, we ll be looking for more
feedback from the fanclub as a whole as to where we
should hold ImaniCon2003.

Third, as always, if you know of any science fiction,
fantasy or comic book conventions that will be held
during the next year, please let me know. We DON T
want to schedule ImaniCon to conflict with another
major con! Also, we can post a link to the other con
on our website.

Thanks for your input!

SOUND OFF!
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

In this section of the newsletter we offer all of you
the opportunity to give us your opinion on various
Invisible Man subjects.

Last newsletter I asked you to see if we can come up
with a personal dictionary for The Official. Here s
what some of you creative I-Maniacs came up with:

From bookwormgirl:
Chrysalis The reason I can't retire.
Counteragent A very costly expense for something
that skinny, mopped-haired theif
doesn't really need...oops..I mean...
Its a cost effective medicine that
Darien Fawkes needs regularly to stay
alive and do his job serving the
government.
Bobby Hobbes The reason I have very little hair
left.
Shut up Ebert! Shut up Eberts!

From liz_Z:
Budget Something the Agency lacks in abundance
Raise A very persistent myth that is
continually brought up by one Robert
Hobbes
Darien Fawkes Receptacle (see also: LABRAT)

From FawkesFox:
Classified Word used to keep others from asking
questions about certain projects.
ie: "That is classified information."
Keeper A doctor with special skills that
takes care of those involved in
classified projects.
Eberts Right hand man who talks too much and
is often told to shut up.
Hobbes Short, bald agent that constantly bugs
me for a bigger salary.
Fawkes Tall, smart-mouthed agent with
"special abilities".
Arnaud De Thiel An arrogant little man who always
manages to escape. (See also "De
Fohn").
Crysalis A secret organization with an yet to
be determined agenda.

Monroe Five-star agent who always goes over
my head when she doesn't like what I
have to say.

New Topic:
We ve all heard of Webster s dictionary but who
really needs to know all those words! I think to get
to know some one, it would be great to have their
personal dictionary containing the words most
important to them and their definition of them. We
just created a dictionary for The Official, now let s
see if we can come up with Arnaud s dictionary. What
words do you think Darien s nemesis would include in
his personal dictionary and how do you think he d
define them?

You can Sound Off by sending your opinion to

Greetings fellow I-Maniacs!

Another month has come and gone and what an exciting
and busy month it has been! By now you ve all heard
about the publicity stunt that took place at the USA
Network, but have you seen the pictures yet? No?
Then go hightail it over to O:VI campaign headquarters
at http://qsm.shinies.net and go take a look-see. I
just love the expression on Angela s face when she saw
the Darien dollar! Thanks go to Kelly, our Publicity
Stunt Task Force Team Leader, for the great pics and
to her boyfriend who generously donated his time to
get them up on a website for us.

So now that the publicity stunt is done and we ve
caught the attention of TPTB, what s next? Do we just
sit on our hands and hope for the show to come back?
Of course not! Wishing and hoping won t make it
happen, my friends. What is needed is action. I have
a coffee mug that sits on my desk that says, Some
people dream of success while others wake up and work
hard at it. Truer words were never spoken for
reaching our goals in life. Now is the time to step
up our efforts, not scale them back. We especially
need you to write to Matt Greenburg. Let him know
that you want I-Man back!

Want to do more? We ve got a bunch of new Task Force
teams in the works that are open to anyone who wants
to join them. Read on and I ll tell you more about
them later in this newsletter.

Media Hits

Besides this month s really big media hit, the
publicity stunt, we also have some website hits! Go
take a look and thank them for helping us out!

I m happy to announce that we ve surpassed the first

That s almost 8,000 signatures! Way to go! We re
getting closer to our goal of 10,000 sigs!

SaveThatShow.com (www.savethatshow.com) The votes
keep climbing at SaveThatShow.com. The Invisible Man

The I-Man Charity Auction and its Effect on the
Campaign
By Pipsqueak

Hola, folks -- pip here: As many of you already know,
O:VI is assisting PerseusProject.com with The
Invisible Man Props & Memorabilia Online Charity
Auction. Now while I'm sure most fans will be utterly
awed by the fabulous items up for sale, some may be
overwhelmed by the sheer volume of merchandise,
particularly certain items such as the Keeper's lab
coat, Darien's tan leather jacket or the Fawkes
Mobile. Well, I want to assure everyone that there's
no reason to worry -- USA is *not* having an I-Man
liquidation sale :-) In fact, it wasn't even USA's
idea. PerseusProject approached USA with the idea of
the auction in the hopes of generating major publicity
for the show and the campaign to save it. And believe
me, folks, other charity auctions -- such those for
Star Trek and Dark Angel -- have generated significant
publicity for their respective shows. Plus there is
nothing up for sale that can't be replaced or that is
truly critical to the show. The tan jacket is a stunt
jacket (though it *was* worn by VV in some scenes),
the Keeper's lab coat is one of a number, and the
Fawkes mobile is owned by the Extra s Casting
Director. She decided to sell it because she thought
that a fan might really appreciate it more. Besides,
let's face it, a Lexus it ain't. Ford Crown Victorias
are a dime a dozen. Plus there's no reason why D
couldn't get a new car -- he got a new fridge in S2,
right? So go ahead and bid on your heart's desire. You
can enjoy your very own little piece of I-Mania guilt
free, knowing that the money is going to some very
worthy charities and that the publicity generated will
further the campaign to save our beloved Underfunded
Six. :-)

Task Force Teams

O:VI Cheerleaders I m happy to announce that we have
two new cheerleaders on our Cheerleading Squad: Nikki
and Miami Aquamamma! These two gals have jumped right
in, begun shaking their silver pompoms and have been
doing a great job! We re glad to have them on the
squad!

Convention Task Force Team I m please to announce that
another Convention Task Force Team Leader has been
added to the team and will be co-leading the team with
NekoSama. Our newest co-leader is Desi, who happens
to lead the Media Envoy Task Force Team also. Desi is
currently putting together an I-Man panel at Dragoncon
in Atlanta, Georgia at the end of the month. This
will be wonderful exposure for our show as
approximately 20,000 people attend this con each year!

Ambassador Program Well, folks, after much delay, I m
happy to say that our Ambassador Program is finally
under way! Katmax will be leading the program and has
already begun recruiting fans from around the globe to
become I-Man Ambassadors for their own country. I m
pleased to announce that our first Ambassador is Suzy,
Ambassador to the UK!

Well, that s all for this abbreviated version of the

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
<*><*><*><*><*><*>

In this section of the newsletter you all got the
chance to get your creative juices flowing and write
the next part of an ongoing story. Below you'll find
the story in its entirety, wrapped up very nicely by
Workercaste.

The teaser:
Darien was a happy guy. He had just gotten a shot of
counteragent and wouldn't need a new one for a while,
things were quiet at the agency, and most importantly,
he was going to spend a nice relaxing evening at home
with a home-made meal and his favorite book "The Story
of Philosophy: The Lives and Opinions of the World's
Greatest Philosophers". "It doesn't get any better
than this", he thought as he headed toward his
apartment with a bag of groceries in one arm.
As he unlocked the door, the scene inside made him
stop in his tracks. "Aw crap!" he said as the smile
disappeared from his face and was replaced by a look
of dismay. His apartment had been ransacked and very
thoroughly at that. After taking a moment to digest
the situation, he walked cautiously into the apartment
careful not to step on anything breakable, which had
not already been broken, and checked to make sure that
whoever made the mess wasn't still there.

Part 2 by R2:
Glass crunched under Darien's feet as he made his way
through his destroyed apartment. Nothing had been
spared and Darien felt violated. Unknown hands had
rifled through his possessions, going over his
personal affects. The intruder, or intruders, had been
quite thorough. He could feel his heart pounding in
his chest, his small abode abnormally quiet. With a
deep breath, Darien allowed the quicksilver to coat
his body, neatly rendering him invisible. If whoever
had done this was still here, he saw no need to give
them the advantage. There was a small noise from
inside the bathroom, Darien's head snapped around at
the sound as he began to make his way toward the
closed door.

Part 3 by R2
Slowly, Darien reached out and grasped the cold handle
in his equally cold hand. Fear and anger were vying
for attention, whoever had ransacked his home was
still stupid enough to be here. Big mistake.
He flung the door open and blindly launched himself
inside, grabbing a stunned individual around their
waist. There was a startled shout as he and the
intruder fell to the ground in a tangle of arms and
legs, Darien could feel them struggling to get out
from under him and he knew that he had the upper hand.
Darien gripped a flailing hand tightly as he glanced
down at the person who had destroyed his apartment.
His breath left him in a horrified gasp as he
recognized the man, "Hobbes?"

Part 4 by Kathy Czechowski, a.k.a. Hei_Mao
Hobbes snorted, jerking from Darien's grip and
standing. "Thanks for the hospitality. Love what
you've done with the place," he said, brushing broken
glass from his sleeves.
"What do you mean by that? I didn't do this." Darien's
brow furrowed as he let the quicksilver fall away.
"What, and I did? You called me here."
"No, I didn't." His voice trailed off as he stared at
the mess.
"Yeah, you did. You said you wanted to talk to me
about something, the door would be unlocked, I should
just walk in. I walked in, and POW! I woke up in here.
Then you came barreling in...."
Darien paused, shaking his head. "I didn't call you.
This doesn't make sense."
"Right. If someone wanted to frame me for tossing your
apartment, why call me here?" Hobbes rubbed the back
of his head. A large bruise was rapidly purpling
beneath a dozen small cuts. He winced, mumbling
curses.
"Somebody wanted us here at the same time. The mess is
just a distraction. Someone wanted us out of the way,"
Darien declared.
Hobbes nodded, his expression grim. "I was thinking
the same thing."

Part 5 by FawkesFox
Hobbes' cell phone began to ring. He took it out of
his pocket and answered it, "Hobbes... What?... Where
are you?... Stay there, we're on our way." He hung the
phone up and turned to Darien. "There's trouble
partner." Hobbes started for the door, Darien
following closely behind him. Within minutes they
arrived at the Agency. Once they got there, they
knocked on the door of Charlie's office. There was no
answer so Darien kicked the door in. Inside, Charlie
was tied to the chair, a gag in his mouth.
"Hello, Darien." A familiar voice said from behind the
door. Darien turned to see the man who was responsible
for his brother's death.

Part 6 by Allison Riley
Darien's couldn't speak. He never, in his wildest
dreams, thought that Arnaud would come back for a
third time. Then, the memories of Kevin dying in his
arms came back to him. His speechlessness disappeared.
Darien tried to punch Arnaud, but he wasn't quick
enough. Arnaud grabbed his fist and squeezed it
tightly. Pain rushed through Darien's arm. Then he let
go. The pain vanished. Darien ran to the center of the
room and quicksilvered. Arnaud just laughed. Darien
tried again to punch him, thinking that he couldn't
stop his fist this time. But he did. Hobbes had been
standing there staring. Now he could see Arnaud
holding something in midair. Arnaud squeezed Darien's
fist even harder than before. Forcing him to become
visible again. Arnaud laughed. "How did he do that?"
Darien, Hobbes, and Charlie all said quietly to
themselves.

Part 7 by jakgirl
"Back off, phoneboy," snapped Hobbes, aiming his gun
between Arnaud's eyes. Arnaud nodded and stepped back
as four goons came out of the shadows to grab Darien
and Hobbes. Arnaud snatched Hobbes' gun and
pistol-whipped the agent unconscious.
"Hobbes!" shouted Darien.
"That's 'Fohn'", said the terrorist. He gestured to
the Official. "Free him," he told a goon. "Sssso do we
have a deal?" he asked the fat man.
The Official glared with bloodshot eyes at Arnaud.
"Take him," he snarled. "And bring him back in one
piece or I'll destroy you myself."
"Wait, whoa, do you mean me?" Darien struggled.
"No deal!" Arnaud laid the gun over Darien's heart.
"Move or quicksilver and I blow your ear off."
"Just do what he says, Darien!" bellowed the Official.

Part 8 by jakgirl
"Are you selling me out?" cried Darien.
Arnaud perched on the Official's desk. "I think we
should tell him, don't you? Otherwise he will waste
his time and my patience trying to discover the
answers." He quirked an eyebrow at the Official and
continued,
"The explanation is simple. Using nanotechnology, I've
perfected special contact lenses with tiny viewers,
which enable me to see quicksilver: a superior version
of the Agency's viewers. I have proven to your
employer that they work. Now he knows I can find and
kill you anywhere, at any time, and he has agreed to
let me borrow you for a little job I have. Otherwise,
I shoot you and harvest the gland. Don't think I won't
do it."
"What's the job?" asked Darien warily.

Part 9 by FawkesFox
"My neice has been kidnapped by some very ruthless
people." Arnaud said.
"More ruthless than you?" Darien quipped.
Arnaud ignored him and continued, "I can't stand
seeing my sister so upset."
"Well, well... Never would have figured you for a
softie." Darien said.

Part 10 by Sasscat
"Ordinarily no," Arnaud said smoothly, "but Jessica
shows a lot of promise. Her mother is right to worry."
Darien froze, barely hearing Arnaud's next words. He
knew he was being stupid - it wasn't exactly the most
uncommon of names - but somehow he had a feeling, low
in his gut, that he was about to hear some unpleasant
news. "Your niece is called Jessica?"
"Jessica Semplar. She's in grade three at Heatherfield
Elementary. If you'll come along I'll give you all the
information you need."
"My god," Darien said softly. "Jess." He stumbled
backwards until he found the wall, and clung to it for
support. Jess had been kidnapped. Jess was related to
*Arnaud*. And that was something even her
invisible best friend Ralph couldn't save her from.
But he could try. Darien lifted his eyes to Arnaud's,
coldly determined. "I'll do it."

Part 11 by Mandy, a.k.a. fawkesielady
"Good" Arnaud said with a slight smile. They walked
out of the building, guards on either side of Darien
just incase he decided to change his mind, and got in
Arnaud's car.
"So, what do these people want with Jessica?" Darien
asked as the car pulled out on the street.
"That I am not sure of yet. She is a very bright girl,
very bright for her age." Darien thought he saw a
tinge of hurt behind Arnaud's hard exterior. He would
have felt sorry for him if he wasn't Arnaud.
"Yeah, I know." He mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Nothing. Tell me what you want me to do. But
understand one thing, I'm not doing any of this for
you."
Arnaud chuckled, "I'd hope not. After this is over, we
can go back to hating and wanting to kill each other.
But for now, I'm afraid we have no choice, we must
work together."

Part 12 by The_Mad_Fangirl
"You hate me?" Darien asked. The guards flanked him in
the limo's back seat. "Why? I mean, I hate you because
you killed Kevin, and," his voice hardened, "I will
kill you for that, but what did I ever do to you?"
"You're in my way," Arnaud replied, leaning over the
limo's back seat, gun sideways. "That's always been
sufficient for me, but even if it weren't, there's the
small matter of nine or ten invisible grenades."
"Oh, yeah," Darien replied, smiling slightly. "Yeah,
that was a good one."
"Obviously not good enough. Story of your life,
Fawkes, which is why you'll be dead and I'll have the
gland, but not until after Jessica is safe." Arnaud
turned forward again and looked out the front window.
A few minutes later, "Ah. We're here."
Darien looked over a guard's shoulder. "Jessica's
house."
Arnaud's head whipped around. "And you know that how?"

Part 13 by Maxdout
"Well, It's too small for a villain such as yourself,"
Darien remarked cautiously but slyly. Arnaud seemed
unimpressed so Darien added, "and your oversized ego."
Arnaud still seemed unconvinced, "I suspect it was
just a lucky guess."
The driver opened the door and Arnaud got out while
staring at Darien probingly. Darien glanced at
Arnaud's thugs as he pointed to the door and said,
"Ladies first."
They were not amused. They grabbed Darien, one on
either side, and pushed him out the door. It was
apparent they were fighting the urge to throw him.
They all walked together up the drive to the door of
Jessica's house and Arnaud rang the doorbell. Just
then Darien became very afraid that Jessica's parents
might recognize him from Jessica's painting of Ralph.

Part 14 by liz_Z
Mrs. Semplar opened the door, a curious expression on
her face. "Arnaud, what are you doing here?"
Arnaud gave her a wan smile. "I'm here to help find
Jessica."
Mrs. Semplar's lip trembled for a moment, and then she
broke down into tears. Arnaud immediately pulled her
up in a hug, whispering soothing words in her ear.
After a while Mrs. Semplar began to calm down. Darien
watched in surprise. He had never thought that Arnaud
was capable of anything like compassion.
Mrs. Semplar frowned and gestured at Darien. "Who is
this?"
"Someone who can help us."
"He looks familiar... Oh well, it must be my
imagination. His face just reminded me of... a
painting Jessica made..." She broke down into tears
again.
Arnaud frowned. "What painting?"
"The one of... her invisible friend..."
Arnaud pulled her up in another hug, but his eyes were
filled with cold anger. "I see."

Part 15 by IMFreak
After a moment Mrs. Semplar took a deep breath, pulled
away from Arnaud enough to wipe her eyes briskly, and
said in a voice that sounded as though she were trying
to be cheerful, "Well, where are my manners? Come in,
come in."
Arnaud kept an arm around his sister and after a quick
glare backward at Darien they walked into the house
together. Darien was practically hustled inside by the
two bodyguards behind him. Once they were in the
living room, Mrs. Semplar sat down on a couch, Arnaud
beside her. She gestured toward the other chairs
arranged in a semi circle around the room for the
others to sit in. Subtly, the two muscle men pushed
Darien toward one that was pretty much between the
other two. Just enough nudging so that Mrs. Semplar
wouldn't notice.
"Thanks. How are you holding up Mrs. Semplar?" Darien
asked once he had sat down, a look of sincere concern
on his face.
Mrs. Semplar, who had been looking more at the beige
rug than anything else, brought her head up sharply to
look at him. "Fine, thank you." Her voice was a bit
tight.
"It's alright, Dear, I told you. He's here to try and
help."
She looked earnestly into Arnaud's face, "But why?
What makes you think some stranger can find Jessica
when the police can't? I mean, how well do you know
this man?"
"Trust me. He will do his best to find her." Arnaud
looked at Darien with stern eyes that seemed to add
"or he will be very, very sorry" to his last
statement.

Part 16 by Mandy AKA fawkesieladyandEd
"I'm sorry." Mrs. Semplar said to Darien. "I just
can't get over how much you look like Ralph."
"Ralph?" Darien asked trying to sound confused.
"Yes. Jess's invisible friend." She said as she stood
up. Mrs. Semplar left the room and returned a moment
later with the painting. "See, this is a painting of
Ralph."
"Wow." Was all Darien could force out of his mouth.
Mrs. Semplar sat down wiping away fresh tears. "It's
alright dear." Arnaud said as he put his arm
around her shoulders. "We'll bring her home safe."
He looked at Darien with angry eyes. "May I speak with
you a moment?" He said through clenched teeth. He had
tried to sound friendly, but his sister flinched at
his tone.
"Sure." Darien said and left the house with Arnaud.
"Do you want to tell me why Jessica painted a picture
of you?" Arnaud asked when the front door was closed
behind them.

Part 17 by bookwormgirl
Darien stepped up to Arnaud real close and said, Do
you want to find Jessica or do you want to waste time
with a history lesson?
Arnaud stared back at Darien. We ll talk later, after
Jessica is safe. But trust me, Ralph, he said with
venom in his voice, we will talk. With that, Arnaud
opened the door and the two reentered the house.
Is there a problem? asked Mrs. Sempler.
Not at all, my dear. We were just discussing the best
place to start our investigation. Mr. Fawkes and I
have different, Arnaud paused, techniques.
Mrs. Sempler, asked Darien, did the kidnappers
leave a note? A clue of any kind as to who they are or
what they would want with Jess?

Part 18 by Veronica aka Scout
Mrs. Semplar ran into the kitchen and returned with a
piece of paper and something else in her hand. "Here
is what we found on the front stoop yesterday morning.
A letter and a dead butterfly.
What does it mean?" Arnaud shrugged his shoulders and
looked confused.
Darien knew exactly what the butterfly meant,
"Crysalis."
Arnaud grabbed Darien's arm, "What?"
Darien repeated, "Crysalis is behind this and I know
why they went after Jessica."

Part 19 by RGtwilight
Arnaud's grip on Darien's arm tightened even more and
Arnaud seemed to turn purple. Darien turned away from
Mrs. Semplar and quicksilvered his arm. Arnaud quickly
released his grip and said Merde!
What is Crysalis? asked Arnaud s sister wondering
why both men seemed to be so agitated with each other.
Darien shook off his quicksilvered arm and studied
Arnaud he seemed to recognize the name Crysalis!
Darien then said Look I am sure these people won t
hurt Jessica but I think we should stay calm and look
at the note to see what they want.
Arnaud, still agitated grabbed the note from his
sister and began to read it. But before he finished he
looked up at Darien and hissed, What do you know
about Crysalis?
Darien asked Mrs. Semplar Can I use your phone? Then
he dialed a number and looked at Arnaud and said, I
really think I am going to need help with this. I need
Bobby Hobbes. He will know the best way to infiltrate
Crysalis. Now what does the note say?

Part 20 by Sasscat
Arnaud pressed his lips together for a moment, then
handed the note over. "Very well, but warn Mister
Hobbes not to come armed. I don't think he'd like the
consequences."
"Armed?" Jessica's mother looked worried. "Arnaud, is
this man dangerous?"
"Of course not, _ma chere_," Arnaud said soothingly.
"You know I would never do anything to put you at
risk." He looked daggers at Darien, as if daring him
to argue.
Darien managed to keep his mouth shut, barely. He
turned his attention back to the phone, rattling
instructions off to Bobby as he held the note up to
the light.
_In lieu of promised payment, the girl is ours.
Consider your debt discharged. J.S._
Stark. Darien scowled and resisted the urge to crumple
the note up into a ball. It looked like
Arnaud and Chrysalis had had some business dealings.
But Arnaud had double-crossed them, and they'd trumped
his double-cross.
If Jessica weren't caught in the middle of it, Darien
would have been inclined to sit back and watch them
fight it out. Instead... well, he could only imagine
the things Chrysalis could do with an impressionable
kid.

Part 21 by fawkesieladyandEd
"Story?" What the hell does that mean?" Darien asked
as he looked at Arnaud.
"You are the one that knows Chrysalis so well, you
tell me." Arnaud returned.
Darien thought for a moment, "I don't know." He said
finally.
"Hello boys, good morning Mrs. Semplar." A voice
called from behind them.
Darien turned, "Hobbes? What are you doing here?"
"You called Darien."
"Yeah, but you never answered the phone."
"Let me see that." Hobbes said as he took the note
from Arnaud. He read the note then looked up at
Darien. "It was Chrysalis, and they want a story."
"We figured that part out Hobbes, but what kind of
story?" Darien asked.
"This is a clue Darien. Chrysalis wants us to have a
little treasure hunt. The next clue is in the
children's section of the library."
"Alright then," Arnaud said, "Let's go."

Part 22 by KAT_bboard_lurker
Apparently, the local library didn't realize a girl's
life was on the line. They had yet to open the
massive, locked doors, when Darien, Bobby, and Arnaud
arrived. Arnaud thought it best if his sister stay
behind and his thugs guard her.
"Go find a way in, Fawkes," he barked.
"Yes, my Swiss Miss," Darien said under his breath.
Bobby started to follow, but Arnaud stopped him dead
in his tracks by firing his gun so close to Bobby s
face, he could feel it pass by.
"Oops, I missed," Arnaud said innocently enough. "I
wonder if I will next time."
"I think I ll stay here with him, Darien," Bobby
squeaked out.
Darien walked behind the building. There was a small
window, towards the ground, perhaps to a basement. He
climbed down into the black abyss. What s that moving?
He couldn t see "Oh my " he thought. "HEY YOU GUYS!!!
YOU BETTER COME LOOK AT THIS RIGHT
NOW!!!"

Part 23 by dakFinv
Arnaud and Hobbes ran to where Fawkes had entered the
library. "What is it Fawkes?" questioned Hobbes.
"It's one of Stark's guys. He looks pretty beat up,"
answered Darien
Darien helped Arnaud and Hobbes into the library.
Fumbling around in the dark Hobbes found a light
switch and lit up the dark room. The room was
completely trashed.
"Whoa. It looks like a wrestling match took place down
here," said Hobbes.
"You. What happened here?" Arnaud snarled as he shook
the already half-conscious Chrysallis agent.
"I...I...I can't...a struggle...gunshots...other
people...other than Chrysallis," stammered the man. He
slowly started to create more understandable
sentences. "My partner and I were supposed to wait
here and watch you while you were at the library, but
there were other men here other than us. I don't know
who they were, but they took my partner."
"You have no idea who they were?" asked Darien.
"No, but they left this. Maybe it will help."

Part 24 by Kimpire
Darien reached out to take the note from the Chrysalis
agent, but
Arnaud slapped his hand away and grabbed it himself.
While Arnaud read the
note to himself, Hobbes pulled Darien over. "Why the
hell is he offering
this information up to us?" he asked.
Darien frowned. "What do you mean?"
"I mean," said Hobbes, "That if this guy really was
attacked by someone
else, he wouldn't freely tell us that. It's obvious he
recognizes us,
so why is he volunteering information?"
Darien paused for a moment. "Hobbes..."
"Trust me, Fawkes, I'm the expert here, and we're
being set up, my
friend."
Darien sighed. "Well, only one way to find out." He
turned to Arnaud,
who had finished reading the note. "What's it say?"

Part 25 by iwomans_sister
Arnaud looked at Darien, than back at the note. It
says: There are new players on the team. We have the
girl, and we want the Invisible Man in trade. Signed,
A.F.C.
Darien and Bobby s mouths dropped open. Aw crap!
they both said, at the same time. Darien started to
fidget a little.
What, do you know who they are? Arnaud asked.
Lets just say we have ran into them before. Darien
answered.
Listen Fawkes, if we are going to find Jessica you
need to tell me what you know.
This could take a while. Darien replied.

Part 26 by Quicksilvermad
Meanwhile...
"Where's my mom?!" Jessica strained her little arms
against the duct tape and tried to blink away the odd
feeling of the same tape over her eyes. Her captors
had her stuck to a very uncomfortable chair. No answer
came to her, and she began to wonder.
*Did they just leave me? Are they going to kill me? I
wish Ralph was here...*
Ralph? Where did that come from? She hadn't really
thought of him in a while.
Jessica's chin jerked up from its place on her chest
as the door to...wherever she was clicked open.
"Who's there? Where am I?"
An unexpected tug came on the tape over her eyes, and
Jessica shrieked. She swore that most of her eyelashes
and eyebrows came off with it.
"Shut up, kid! We're waiting for someone, okay? Just
shut up until he gets here!"
Jessica couldn't help it. She tried not to look at the
guy. "Who gets here?"
The man raised his hand as if to contemplate cuffing
her, and she cringed.
"The Invisible Man."
Jessica's eyes widened.

Part 27 by Fawkesfox
The door suddenly fell in. Two enemies stood together,
focused on a common goal. Though no one could see
either of them. Darien had quicksilvered Arnaud so
that they could get Jessica out safely.
"Jessie! Are you okay?" Arnaud shouted as he punched
one of the kidnappers.
Jessica looked up, "Uncle, Arnie? I'm okay. Why can't
I see you?" Jessica scanned the room, still unable to
see Arnaud.
Then she heard another familiar voice. "Hang on, Jess.
We're going to get you out of here."
Jessica looked up again, "Ralph?" She said as more
sounds of fighting echoed through the room.

Part 28 The Final Chapter by Workercaste
Darien placed a cold finger over Jessica s lips.
Yeah, Jess, it s Ralph. Listen, I m gonna have to use
some of my magic on you, so I need you to stay real
quiet. It ll feel funny at first.
Jessica nodded mutely, then gasped as a wave of cold
liquid flowed over her skin. Her vision shifted to
grays, and suddenly she could see two glowing figures
in the room with her. One of them Ralph, she thought
-- scooped her up into his arms and carried her
through a maze of corridors, stopping occasionally
while the other figure exchanged gunfire with men
blocking their way.
Soon they emerged into daylight and dashed for a
nearby van. Another man, one she thought she
remembered from the scary time with the man/monster in
the woods, was standing by the van and pointing a gun
past them. Ralph called out to him, and they all
climbed into the vehicle and sped away.
Jessica s vision returned to normal as silver dust
fell away from her. Ralph and Uncle Arnie were
suddenly there with her, too, and she couldn t decide
which one to hug first, so she just grabbed one in
each arm and hugged them both together.
When she finally released her hold, the two men pulled
apart quickly and deliberately avoided looking at each
other.
Ralph, what are you doing here?
Darien thought furiously, trying to come up with a
story that wouldn t shatter her innocent illusions.
Mr. Hobbes over there, remember him? He helped catch
that guy you saw kill the man in the woods last year?
He came and told me you were in trouble and asked me
to help.
Yeah, kid, Hobbes piped up from the drivers seat,
couldn t have pulled this off without yer ol pal
Ralph.
Arnaud was staring at his niece in confusion. Darien
caught the look and smirked, amused at the bastard s
discomfort.
Are you taking me home, Mr. Hobbes? I need to see my
mom....
The mooks who had you might try to take you again if
we just brought you home, so we re taking you
someplace safe. I promise we ll send someone to get
your mom and bring her as soon as we get there.
Arnaud scowled, his hand clenching as if around the
butt of a gun.
You re taking her to the Agency?
Darien smiled. Yep. The Fish has the whole kit and
kaboodle on high alert. It s for her safety. And ours.
And yours, he said meaningfully. Arnaud finally met
the eyes of his nemesis and nodded his understanding.
Jessica s presence was the only thing keeping Arnaud
from making a violent break for it, and Darien from
wrapping his hands around de Fohn s throat and
squeezing. Both men had secrets to keep from Jessica,
about who and what they truly were.
Six hours later, Jessica and her mother were being
briefed by government officials about the possibility
of joining the witness protection program. A cover
story had been prepared to hide the reason for the
necessity, purporting that the assassination Jessica
had witnessed the year before had been part of a
larger conspiracy and Jessica was therefore a target
for vengeance..
Arnaud stayed near his sister, and the Agency always
had several agents discreetly posted near him to
prevent any untoward actions, ready to arrest him once
his family was out of the way.
A dozen agents accompanied Arnaud, his sister and his
niece out to the government vehicle waiting to whisk
the Semplars off to a new life in a new place. It was
after midnight by this point, and the street was
deserted. A sleepy-eyed Jess shared a second tearful
goodbye with Ralph , promising not to forget him.
Darien confidently assured her that he d never forget
her, either. As the car pulled away and turned a
corner to reach the freeway, the agents prepared to
place the Swiss terrorist under arrest.
At that moment, three pricey SUV s tore into view from
around another corner and screeched to a stop before
the Harding Building, disgorging a score of
youthful-looking, well-dressed thugs with guns. They
faced off with the armed agents in a stand-off.
Stark climbed out of one of the cars at a more sedate
pace and sauntered over to the Official.
Mr. Borden, he began in a calm voice, seemingly
oblivious to the tension of the situation.
Mr. Stark, the Official replied in the same tone.
I believe you will agree that this situation
is...volatile. A fracas would get a number of people
on both sides killed, and neither of us really wants
that, do we? What I want is de Fohn. I believe you ll
agree that protecting him is hardly worth the lives of
your valuable agents?
The Official stood like a marble statue, showing no
signs of agreement or dissent. Darien could sense the
conflict roiling within him; his duty was to arrest
Arnaud and deliver him to the arms of justice, but
he d hate to expend his people s lives on such a
putrid specimen of humanity.
Fawkes and Hobbes glanced at each other in an instant
of pure mental alignment, nodded once, and then saved
their boss from having to make that decision. Each man
grabbed Arnaud by an arm and shoved him forward into
the arms of the Chrysalis agents.
Take him, Stark, Darien growled. You two deserve
each other.
Stark scowled in return, probably realizing that a
snappy comeback to the implied insult would be
undignified...or perhaps just peeved because he
couldn t think of one. Within thirty seconds, the
clowns had piled back into their fancy clown cars,
stuffing Arnaud roughly in ahead of them, and were
zipping away into the darkness.
Charlie Borden sighed. I really will have to speak to
you boys about who gives the orders around here. But
he didn t sound angry.
Darien and Bobby exchanged a quiet low-five as soon as
the Fish turned his back. Wonder what they ll do
with him? Bobby wondered.
Dunno, Darien said, shoving his hands in his
pockets. I m just sorry I won t get to watch.
The End
