Hi Fellow I-Maniacs & welcome to all our new members!
I know I promised you an interview with Paul Ben-Victor this issue, but it is being postponed until next issue. Why, you ask? There's a very good reason Paul didn't get the chance to finish with his answers and he really wants to complete them before I publish the interview. I can only be honored and amazed at the amount of time he's willing to spend answering my questions and look forward to reading what he has to say. For this issue, however, I was lucky enough to get an interview with Joe Ruiz who is one of the hard working I-Man crewmembers and an all-around great guy!
Yet again I received some really great "Sound Off!" story continuations for this issue and was forced to choose just one! For all of you who submitted a chapter, I applaud you on your creativity I wish I could include them all. Keep up the excellent work!
As always, I have a list of "missing members" I'd like to make you all aware of. The current list of fan club members whose email addresses are not working for me are: reddevil59, quicksilvr, DeptofFishandGame, CanadianNational, Slave2chiana and LuvnVinVin. If you see any of them in the chat room or on the bboard, please do me a favor and send them my way at imannewsletter@yahoo.com so I can get things straightened out and make sure they don't miss out on anything!
We welcome any feedback, not only for this newsletter, but also for the fan club web site at http://www.geocities.com/imanfanclub as well. Please send your comments and suggestions to imannewsletter@yahoo.com.

*Greetings
Hello to all my fellow hiatus-induced-Vinsanic Imaniacs! We can all rest well in the
knowlege that in just 25 short days, we will be graced not only with new eppies (R2 pauses
to dance) but also a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW SEASON!! If that isn't cause for rejoicing then
check your pulse 'cause you might be dead.
To everyone that is part of this club I want to extend sincerest appreciation for the way
you have stuck by me while I planted my feet on the ground and worked my way through the
growing pains of organizing this "society" of sorts. It hasn't always been easy,
there have been some rough spots, but you were patient with me and we have emerged wiser
on the other side. So thank you one and all!
Our numbers continue to increase, and this is an endless source of joy for me. That there
are more and more fans out there discovering our great show and wanting to be around
others who share in their Vinsanity. Our numbers now top out at a whopping 214 members!
*R2 pauses to swoon and dance*
Our newest newbies are : Ryu_Kokoro, Maxdout, Logans_Girl, AmazonEMT, Thrakman,
Fawkes-n-quicksilvermadness, Geonn_Quotes, The_Patryness, Kelli, Quinn, Starrynights,
DariensGirl, Debra and Wyvern. Let's give a huge great big insane welcome to all our
newest members! *R2 does a Darien dance of joy* I'm noticing that more and more of our
members are coming over from the bboard. This is great! The more the merrier. Spread the
word because a fan of the show is a friend of mine!
*Some Changes
Because the size of the fan club is growing and expanding so quickly, it is getting
harder and harder for me to run things solely by myself. For the longest time I have been
doing that. Taking most of the responsibilities and just relegating a few activities to
some of the members.
This is going to change in the upcoming future. I have been in discussion with a few
"original" club members and I am going to put together a "Board of
Directors" if you will. A group of Imaniacs who will work with me to help keep the
club running.
I wanted to let you all know in advance of this change, because there may be a different
person in the future that you need to send requests or questions too. I will still be here
and you will still be able to get in contact with me, but because of our increasing
numbers, my responsibilities are increasing as well. It's time to organize and get things
in order so that all you Imaniacs can continue to enjoy this fan club and I can keep
things moving along smoothly.
As soon as the "Directorate" (*snort* sorry, bad reference) is in place, I will
let you all know who they are and what their responsibilities will be.
So again, thank you all for your support and desire to help. That really means a lot to
me.
*Pen Orders
A great big THANK YOU goes out to LoganLover for all of her hard work with me on this
one. I really could not have done it without her! All those last minute emails to her
screaming that I needed more pens and within the space of a week, BAM I had them. So LL,
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
I'm still behind in shipping out the last of the orders, and this is only because I had
some other business I needed to take care of. Fear not my wonderful Imaniacs, if you
placed and order and sent in your payment, you WILL be receiving a pen. I just apologize
for the delay in getting your shipment out to you. One of the other reasons I'm putting
together this Board I spoke of.
As for the ordering of pens, I will continue taking orders up until the 1st of March.
After March 1st, I will NO LONGER accept any new orders. I will send out the remaining
shipments and then close the window on this brand of merchandise. Now, this does not go to
say that I will never sell these wonderful items again. They were a huge hit and I was
very pleased with them. As with the shirts, these items will definitely be "on the
market" again in the future.
So, if you think you're going to want more or you have friends you'd like to get some for,
drop me an email BEFORE March 1st and I'll add or update my list.
*EWSWFH Contest
Wowie! We've gotten many entries into this *ahem* morbid little contest. Thank you to all of the entrants who have sent in their pieces of death. Once again, thanks to Beth for coming up with this little number --- it helps to keep our minds off the hiatus. Beth & I are continuing to accept entries into the EWSWFH contest until March 1st. After that, all entries will be forwarded to our anonymous judges who will then grab chocolate chip cookies and milk and go through the oh-so-difficult task of finding a first, second and third place winners. I want to extend my thanks to Cleya for helping design the prizes that will be awarded! You guys are gonna DIE when you see them! They are so cool! So Cleya & Beth, huge great big THANK YOU'S!!
*Prey Write-In
Thank you to each and every one of you that sent in a letter or an email in support of
a 2-hour mini-movie to tie up all the loose ends on Prey. I sent in a total of 102 letters
to SciFi in support of this venture. This was just the letters I received, I'm going to
find out from the Prey for Us campaign how many letters they were able to send in.
Thank you to everyone for taking an interest, Prey fans thank you and I thank you. I know
that we would want others to help US if the shoe were on the other foot. I and those
involved with the Prey campaign will keep you all informed as to how things move forward
with the mini-movie.
*Emmy Nod
This may sound a little bit ... I dunno. Strange. But then again, we are the Imaniacs
so if things weren't strange then we'd all be worried, right? Right.
So, okay. I got an email from Fawkeskitty stating that it would be really very cool if we
could send in an Emmy nomination for Iman for best new SciFi TV series. I thought this was
a brilliant idea!
Fawkeskitty has been doing all the research on how we could even START to do something
like this, she found out that the only way a nomination can be made is if you happen to be
involved in the production/creation of movies, TV shows etc. So the way it looks is, if we
want to even consider the possibility of nominating Iman for an Emmy (how COOL that would
be!) we need to try and find a member of the academy and petition them like crazy.
Now, I have absolutely NO IDEA how one would go about tracking down this poor unknowing
individual so we could bombard them (in a good way) with petitions on why Iman should be
nominated, but I do believe it can be done.
Fawkeskitty is continuing her research and I'm putting feelers out as well. If any of you
know where we could track someone like this down, or you just so happen to KNOW someone we
could petition, then contact me ASAP!!
I'm not sure, but Fawkeskitty seems to think there is a deadline on nominations. I just
think this would be a really cool thing to do; all of us fans joining forces and sending
in reasons why Iman should get an Emmy. Don't know if we would be able to even pull it
off, but just imagine how great it would be to be sitting in front of the TV during the
Emmys and hearing those glorious words "and the winner for best new SciFi Television
show is ... The Invisible Man ...!!" *R2 faints*
And that's what I have for you guys this time around. Never a dull moment around here, I tell ya! I've taken up enough of your time. Go. Enjoy the rest of the newsletter!

<*><*><*><*><*> SPOTLIGHT ON: DORETTA'S INTERACTIVE FANFIC <*><*><*><*><*>
Remember those "choose your own adventure" books you read as a kid? Remember how fun it was to read and reread them over and over because, unlike other books, they were different each time? Well, now you have an opportunity to relive that fun with Doretta's "Invisible Man" Interactive Fan Fiction site at http://www.interactivefic.homestead.com/.
The story at Doretta's site is fun, well written, and best of all, you get to determine how it proceeds by selecting one of two options at intervals throughout the story.
So, go ahead and check it out again and again and again!
Got a great Invisible Man web site? Tell us about it. Send e-mail to imannewsletter@yahoo.com
<*><*><*><*><*> SOUND OFF! <*><*><*><*><*>
In this section of the newsletter we offer all of you the opportunity to give us your opinion on various Invisible Man subjects.
Before we get into the new topic, let's check out the results of the last "Sound Off". If you remember, I asked you to choose your favorite Arnaud disguise: An ice cream man, the "Swiss Doogie Howser", Fort Leavitt Hospital surgeon, Kevin Fawkes, or a limo driver. This was a very close race among most of them (although no one thought it was amusing when he messed with Darien's head as Kevin)! However, the "Swiss Doogie Howser" look was the winner, followed closely (by one vote to be exact) by the limo driver disguise.
As KitKat put it, "Portraying the genius scientist, then playing ping-pong with the other doc, declares 'it's 9 oclock' and BOOM kills him dead! From then on he was the Swiss Terminator. Love the accents too! Hey, the guy is the ultimate villian. That's why we love to hate him."
New Topic:
Okay, before I tell you the question, let me just say that I realize there will be many
options that are not included. I had to narrow the list down to just a few, so I apologize
if your favorite is not here.
On to the question
What is your favorite Darien shirt? Is it the undersized orange
number, which is probably dry clean only but he threw it in the washer and dryer anyway?
Or do you prefer the laid back look of his Barfly tee shirt? Maybe you're partial to the
more formal look of the white button-down shirt, which looks perfect with a black tie,
black suite and sneakers? Or do you think he looks best in those V-neck tee shirts he
likes to wear which look great alone or go splendidly under other articles of clothing
such as gas station attendant shirts? Or, speaking of gas station attendant shirts, do you
secretly harbor a love for those often discussed items? When answering, remember "no
shirt" is not a valid option (at least not for the purposes of this survey :)
You can Sound Off by sending your choice (as difficult as it may be, please choose only one) to imannewsletter@yahoo.com by March 12th and be sure to put the words "Sound Off" in the subject of your email.
<*><*><*><*><*> WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? <*><*><*><*><*>
In this section of the newsletter you get the chance to get your creative juices flowing and write the next part of an ongoing story. Below, you'll find the story so far. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (unlike The Official, we give you the choice :), is to write the next part of the story in about 125 words or less. It'll be a tough choice, but I will pick one submission and post it in the next newsletter and continue from there. Ready? Here goes!
The teaser:
Darien was a happy guy. He had just gotten a shot of counteragent and wouldn't need a new
one for a while, things were quiet at the agency, and most importantly, he was going to
spend a nice relaxing evening at home with a home-made meal and his favorite book
"The Story of Philosophy: The Lives and Opinions of the World's Greatest
Philosophers". "It doesn't get any better than this", he thought as he
headed toward his apartment with a bag of groceries in one arm.
As he unlocked the door, the scene inside made him stop in his tracks. "Aw
crap!" he said as the smile disappeared from his face and was replaced by a look of
dismay. His apartment had been ransacked and very thoroughly at that. After taking a
moment to digest the situation, he walked cautiously into the apartment careful not to
step on anything breakable, which had not already been broken, and checked to make sure
that whoever made the mess wasn't still there.
Part 2 by R2:
Glass crunched under Darien's feet as he made his way through his destroyed apartment.
Nothing had been spared and Darien felt violated. Unknown hands had rifled through his
possessions, going over his personal affects. The intruder, or intruders, had been quite
thorough. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest, his small abode abnormally quiet.
With a deep breath, Darien allowed the quicksilver to coat his body, neatly rendering him
invisible. If whoever had done this was still here, he saw no need to give them the
advantage. There was a small noise from inside the bathroom, Darien's head snapped around
at the sound as he began to make his way toward the closed door.
Part 3 by R2
Slowly, Darien reached out and grasped the cold handle in his equally cold hand. Fear and
anger were vying for attention, whoever had ransacked his home was still stupid enough to
be here. Big mistake.
He flung the door open and blindly launched himself inside, grabbing a stunned individual
around their waist. There was a startled shout as he and the intruder fell to the ground
in a tangle of arms and legs, Darien could feel them struggling to get out from under him
and he knew that he had the upper hand.
Darien gripped a flailing hand tightly as he glanced down at the person who had destroyed
his apartment. His breath left him in a horrified gasp as he recognized the man,
"Hobbes?"
Part 4 by Kathy Czechowski, a.k.a. Hei_Mao
Hobbes snorted, jerking from Darien's grip and standing. "Thanks for the hospitality.
Love what
you've done with the place," he said, brushing broken glass from his sleeves.
"What do you mean by that? I didn't do this." Darien's brow furrowed as he let
the quicksilver fall
away.
"What, and I did? You called me here."
"No, I didn't." His voice trailed off as he stared at the mess.
"Yeah, you did. You said you wanted to talk to me about something, the door would be
unlocked, I
should just walk in. I walked in, and POW! I woke up in here. Then you came barreling
in...."
Darien paused, shaking his head. "I didn't call you. This doesn't make sense."
"Right. If someone wanted to frame me for tossing your apartment, why call me
here?" Hobbes rubbed the back of his head. A large bruise was rapidly purpling
beneath a dozen small cuts. He winced, mumbling curses.
"Somebody wanted us here at the same time. The mess is just a distraction. Someone
wanted us out of the
way," Darien declared.
Hobbes nodded, his expression grim. "I was thinking the same thing."
Part 5 by FawkesFox
Hobbes' cell phone began to ring. He took it out of his pocket and answered it,
"Hobbes... What?... Where are you?... Stay there, we're on our way." He hung the
phone up and turned to Darien. "There's trouble partner." Hobbes started for the
door, Darien following closely behind him. Within minutes they arrived at the Agency. Once
they got there, they knocked on the door of Charlie's office. There was no answer so
Darien kicked the door in. Inside, Charlie was tied to the chair, a gag in his mouth.
"Hello, Darien." A familiar voice said from behind the door. Darien turned to
see the man who was responsible for his brother's death.
Part 6 by Allison Riley
Darien's couldn't speak. He never, in his wildest dreams, thought that Arnaud would come
back for a third time. Then, the memories of Kevin dying in his arms came back to him. His
speechlessness disappeared. Darien tried to punch Arnaud, but he wasn't quick enough.
Arnaud grabbed his fist and squeezed it tightly. Pain rushed through Darien's arm. Then he
let go. The pain vanished. Darien ran to the center of the room and quicksilvered. Arnaud
just laughed. Darien tried again to punch him, thinking that he couldn't stop his fist
this time. But he did. Hobbes had been standing there staring. Now he could see Arnaud
holding something in midair. Arnaud squeezed Darien's fist even harder than before.
Forcing him to become visible again. Arnaud laughed. "How did he do that?"
Darien, Hobbes, and Charlie all said quietly to themselves.
Part 8 by jakgirl
"Are you selling me out?" cried Darien.
Arnaud perched on the Official's desk. "I think we should tell him, don't you?
Otherwise he will waste his time and my patience trying to discover the answers." He
quirked an eyebrow at the Official and continued,
"The explanation is simple. Using nanotechnology, I've perfected special contact
lenses with tiny viewers, which enable me to see quicksilver: a superior version of the
Agency's viewers. I have proven to your employer that they work. Now he knows I can find
and kill you anywhere, at any time, and he has agreed to let me
borrow you for a
little job I have. Otherwise, I shoot you and harvest the gland. Don't think I won't do
it."
"What's the job?" asked Darien warily.
Part 9 by FawkesFox
"My neice has been kidnapped by some very ruthless people." Arnaud said.
"More ruthless than you?" Darien quipped.
Arnaud ignored him and continued, "I can't stand seeing my sister so upset."
"Well, well... Never would have figured you for a softie." Darien said.
Part 10 by Sasscat
"Ordinarily no," Arnaud said smoothly, "but Jessica shows a lot of promise.
Her mother is right to worry."
Darien froze, barely hearing Arnaud's next words. He knew he was being stupid - it wasn't
exactly the most uncommon of names - but somehow he had a feeling, low in his gut, that he
was about to hear some unpleasant news. "Your niece is called Jessica?"
"Jessica Semplar. She's in grade three at Heatherfield Elementary. If you'll come
along I'll give you all the information you need."
"My god," Darien said softly. "Jess." He stumbled backwards until he
found the wall, and clung to it for support. Jess had been kidnapped. Jess was related to
*Arnaud*. And that was something even her
invisible best friend Ralph couldn't save her from.
But he could try. Darien lifted his eyes to Arnaud's, coldly determined. "I'll do
it."
Part 11 by Mandy, a.k.a. fawkesielady
"Good" Arnaud said with a slight smile. They walked out of the building, guards
on either side of Darien just incase he decided to change his mind, and got in Arnaud's
car.
"So, what do these people want with Jessica?" Darien asked as the car pulled out
on the street.
"That I am not sure of yet. She is a very bright girl, very bright for her age."
Darien thought he saw a tinge of hurt behind Arnaud's hard exterior. He would have felt
sorry for him if he wasn't Arnaud.
"Yeah, I know." He mumbled.
"What was that?"
"Nothing. Tell me what you want me to do. But understand one thing, I'm not doing any
of this for you."
Arnaud chuckled, "I'd hope not. After this is over, we can go back to hating and
wanting to kill each other. But for now, I'm afraid we have no choice, we must work
together."
Your turn! Send your version of What Happens Next to imannewsletter@yahoo.com by March 12th and be sure to put the words "What Happens Next" in the subject of your email.
<*><*><*><*><*> INTERVIEW WITH JOE RUIZ <*><*><*><*><*>
If Joe Ruiz is a name that you don't recognize it's because, like with any television show or film, the crew never seem to get the recognition they deserve. But Joe and his fellow crewmembers work just as hard as everyone else to make "The Invisible Man" the great show that it is. So, I thought it would be terrific to get to know Joe and find out what part he plays behind the scenes of our favorite show.
DISAPPEARING INK: What are your responsibilities on "The Invisible Man"? We've all seen titles like "gaffer" and "best boy", but what exactly do those entail?
JOE RUIZ: I'm the best boy Electric! I work for the gaffer. I, as the best boy, am his number one guy. The gaffer lights the set and helps with the look of the shot! When the gaffer is away I take his place. The best boy is in charge of a crew of lighting electricians and I direct them in what's gonna happen during the course of the day!
DI: Where do you hail from and how did you get into the entertainment business?
JR: I hail from Mpls. Mn.! The twin cities! I ended up here in San Diego.....umm maybe dumb luck!! The Gaffer who I currently work with is from Mpls. as well, we used to work together in a night club downtown Mpls. He offered me a job and I took it! Like I said dumb luck!
DI: What other television shows or movies have you worked on?
JR: Oh boy! It's been a while! I have worked mostly out of Stu Segall Prod. I worked 3 seasons on "Pensacola", the first season of "I-man", I worked at MTV in L.A., I worked on Cameron Crowe's "Almost Famous", a CBS movie called "I Married a Monster!", worked on "The Michael Landon Story", various movies of the week and commercials! Nothing too exciting! I've worked on shows that were canned as well!
DI: How did you get the job on "The Invisible Man"?
JR: I got the job because I worked together with the gaffer for quite a while! You basically get hired by your co-workers. If they like you they'll take you on their next project! My luck has been pretty good!
DI: For your job function do you interact at all with the actors and if so, it what way?
JR: I indirectly work with the actors! We interact regularly, It's like a big family we spend hours on the set together. Now the gaffer works close with the actors as do the electricians as far as lighting them goes!
DI: From your perspective, has the atmosphere changed on the set for the filming of season two?
JR: Yes it has changed slightly! Some of the offices and sets have changed and there are some new cast! There are also some new department heads, and that may effect the way things are or look and in my opinion some of the newer episodes are written with more of a sci fi flare rather than a cops and robbers story.
DI: Do you watch episodes of the show when they air? Is it a show you would have watched if you weren't involved in the creation process?
JR: Truthfully, I would probably not watch the show if I didn't work on the show. I don't watch much TV or at least I don't have much time to.
DI: When filming on location rather than on set, do you need to do things differently? Is there more to take into consideration?
JR: When filming on locations there's so much you have to take in consideration. It's like a group of strangers come into a neighborhood and inhabit it! We have to be considerate of the people around us and the neighbors, there's also the property that you're shooting on! Bringing all this gear into someone's house or place of business, people can be very protective of their possessions and I don't blame them! I would never let a film crew near my house!!!
DI: Do you have a favorite scene from the show and if so, what makes it stand out for you?
JR: My favorite scene is yet to come! It's on an episode called "Money for Nothing". Darien has a bad dream and that's all I should tell you! But the lighting is awesome! I was the gaffer on that particular scene and it looks incredible! There are lots of cool scenes but it intensifies when you have a lot to do with the shot!
DI: There's an amusing picture of you on Darien's apartment wall... what is the story behind that?
JR: My Monkey Boy photo! It's been there for quite a while. I'm not too sure if anyone's ever noticed it, but the crew sure has! I'm known for being an animated creature at times and one of the guys in the art department takes his digital camera with him to take pictures of the locations before we shoot there. He's supposed to take photos of the locations. Myself and another bestboy always ummm....accidentally get our mugs in the location photos! :)
DI: I heard that Paul's been known to borrow your bicycle when you aren't looking :) Any truth to that?
JR: YES there's truth to that! That was last season! This season he glides around the set with a new battery powered 2 wheeled scooter! But last season I would be looking all over for my bike and would find it somewhere near his trailer! He said he was gonna invest in a bike but he ended up with a scooter!
DI: Are there any "Invisible Man" behind the scene "secrets" that you can share with us?
JR: Hmmm secrets, they wouldn't be secrets if I told all of you! Well there was this one time when....... I can't tell!! :)
I'd like to thank Joe for graciously taking his valuable time to so enthusiastically answer these questions for us. We really appreciate the chance to get a glimpse behind the scenes of our favorite show!
