Comic Con International 2001

July 19-22, 2001
San Diego, CA

This year was the first year that the Imaniacs descended in force on San Diego.  On Thursday, the fans already in town were treated to a tour of The Invisible Man set at Stu Segall Production Studios.  (A big thank you goes out to our PR Director, LisaSmartyPants, for making the arrangements with the studio!) We first got a tour of the production offices, met quite a number of the crew, met the cast for a quick photo opportunity, and we were able to watch a bit of filming of “Mere Mortals.”  We were then treated to lunch by the studio, and Vince, Paul and  Mike chatted with us for a while longer.  The cast and crew were all wonderful & very gracious.  We really can’t thank them enough!

On Friday afternoon, an informal “location crawl” was done in San Diego.  We saw the alley from “Cat & Mouse”, the corner from the end of “Liberty and Larceny”, the acupuncturist’s office in “Bad Chi”, the beach from “Beholder”, among other locations.  We even found the Fish and Game building!

On Friday night, about 50 Imaniacs and guests attended a dinner party at Planet Hollywood in Horton Plaza.  Mike McCafferty and Jason Makiaris (Dr. Murav in “Flash to Bang”) were among the cast members to attend the dinner.  (Unfortunately, Vince, Paul & Brandy were all filming that night, and were disappointed that they couldn’t make it.)  We played a “find your frickin’ friend” game (with business cards), the restaurant allowed us to show the “Pilot” episode on their big screens, and all the fan club members received  great party favors (inside a “Wok, Drop & Roll” take-out container *g*).  It was a great opportunity for everyone to meet each other, and to put faces to names/handles!  After the dinner, most of the fans gathered in the Imaniacs Suite to watch “Bad Chi” and drink Imans.

On Saturday, the Sci-fi Channel again sponsored the cast at a panel discussion.  This year, Vince, Paul, Shannon, Eddie, Brandy and Mike were all there.  Michael Grossman, one of the frequent directors of the show, also joined the panel.  In a “surprise” appearance, Craig Silverstein (producer, story editor, and writer) came from the audience to sit at the panel as well.  Following the panel, the cast signed autographs (for four hours!) at the Sci-fi booth.  Again, the cast was wonderful, so patient, and just the sweetest people around!

About San Diego, CA

The Invisible Man was filmed in and around the city of San Diego, California.  San Diego is a beautiful Southern California city within easy reach of miles of beaches, the mountains and Tijuana Mexico.  A city boasting a vibrant night life, the friendly, hospitable inhabitants of San Diego are most welcoming to visitors and are always ready to help out if one loses their way.  From Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp Quarter,  to Balboa Park and the Mission District, you'll never be at a loss for something to do - and you will most likely run into an Invisible Man location!

It's been our pleasure to spend time in this wonderful city, and we're hoping we can all visit again.  Visit these sites to get a taste of San Diego:
