ImaniCon 2002

April 6-7, 2002
Baltimore, MD

This was the first fanclub convention, and it was spectacular!  Congratulations to Emerald and her committee for all their hard work in planning and running the con.

While the con did not “officially” start until Saturday, many folks showed up on Friday afternoon and evening.  The fans were able to mingle and put faces to names/handles.  At around 11 p.m., Mike McCafferty, Jason Makiaris (Dr. Murav from “Flash to Bang”), and Matt Thompson (Orderly #3 and other bit parts in episodes) dropped by to say hello.  Fans rushed from room to room to let the rest of the Imaniacs in the hotel know that the actors were downstairs.

On Saturday, the convention began with an icebreaker of “find your frickin’ friend”, where we had to find the other half of the business card we were carrying, as well as the matching half of our quote (e.g. Question: “Enjoy the ignorance my friend....”  Answer: “It’s bliss”).  We watched some amazing music videos for the characters edited by crimsonEyez, viewed the “Pilot” episode, played an I-Man Jeopardy game, and commenced the charity auction.  Many thanks to the cast and crew for their donations of items for the auction.  Mike, Jason and Matt then joined us for a Q&A panel discussion.  Mike received a “Friend of Fandom” award, for all his support and friendship during the past two seasons of I-Man.

Saturday night was the costume party.  The costumes were great and very creative.  We even had almost the entire cast of I-man there, complete with two Dariens (one QS’ed and one Stage 5)!  Mike, Jason & Matt joined us at the party, complete with Star Trek uniforms and Jar-Jar Binks masks, and did the monkey dance for us. *g*   We had a Family Feud game, with “The Agency” competing against “Chrysalis” teams – with Chrysalis coming from behind to win by one point.  We held the costume contest, with “Stage 5 Darien” (Darien’s Muse) taking best costume overall.  Most of us hung out until the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday morning we had brunch together at the KGBistro, played “O-Crap!” (an I-Man version of Bingo!), and received goodie bags.

Sunday afternoon, we continued the charity auction, raising over $2,000.00 total over the two days!  We watched more music videos, viewed “Money For Nothing, Parts 1 & 2" (both A & B versions) and “Brother’s Keeper” episodes, and listened to part of the hysterical Round Robin fanfiction.  We also heard the final Eberts Files.

All in all, the weekend was over much too soon!  We’re all looking forward to an even bigger and better (if that’s even possible!) ImaniCon 2003!
