[TheMalteseHobbes] What does an average "day in the life of a script" look like? Who has the initial idea, how does it get assigned to a writer (if that's the case), and how much revision is done while shooting?

[IMANsteve] The initial idea can come from anywhere... one of the staff writers, the producers, or a freelancer can come in and pitch.
[IMANsteve] Usually, the person with the idea will write the script.

[IMANsteve] Revisions during shooting all depends...

[IMANsteve] Usually before the script begins shooting, much of the logistical script changes are taken care of.
[IMANsteve] But I was down on the set for Small World (just to visit)...
[IMANsteve] ...and found myself sequestered to a corner of the sound stage doing rewrites for things they were shooting an hour later.

[IMANsteve] I haven't been too involved with that angle. When I was on staff those issues were dealt with above me.

[IMANsteve] As to ad-libs... Paul and Vince are pretty close - especially when together.

[IMANsteve] However, sometimes there's considerations to a line that the actor may not be aware of on the set - like some sort of specific set-up or something. So, in that case, it's always nice to have at least one take with the proper line. But that hardly happens, really.
