Eddie Jones, Invisible Man's The Official

Eddie-Jones: Good Evening.

Moderator: Can you type Eddie?

Moderator: Great!

Eddie-Jones: I'm here.

Moderator: Brief word about the drill - please send your questions for our guests to me, Moderator, as private messages. (To send a private message, either double-click on my name or type "/msg Moderator" on the command line - only without the quotes.)

Moderator: First question...

Moderator: <JCraze> to <Moderator>: What is a typical day like on the set of IMAN

Eddie-Jones: Depends on what is going on in the script, somedays it's much more difficult than others.

Eddie-Jones: All in all it is pretty pleasant expirience.

Eddie-Jones: Next question?

Moderator: <Helena> to <Moderator>: When you first read the script, what intrigued you about the part of the Official? How badly did you want to land this part?

Eddie-Jones: I wanted it very badly because it was such an interesting guy

Eddie-Jones: Sort of a combination that i've done before... a combination of Orson Wells, Ghengis Khan, and Scrooge McDuck

Eddie-Jones: A characther that had a lot of facets

Eddie-Jones: Which is intriguing to an actor, in other words fun.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Eddie, several people have npted that IMan is a combination of drama and comedy. Who decides which way a given scene will be played out?

Eddie-Jones: It's hard to say, sometimes the actors come up with something that is humoros.

Eddie-Jones: If the humor fits into the scope of the whole play, the actors are free to try some of that, but the director is the one that really decides

Eddie-Jones: We did a scene the other day, My interpretation of the scene when i read it, it was a very serious scene, but when we got together it comic scene...

Eddie-Jones: and, sometimes it's serrindiptus.

Eddie-Jones: Or of the moment.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please?

Moderator: <Tabu68> to <Moderator>: Hi Eddie, the Official seems to be an enigmatic character where Darien is concerned and many of us on the Bboard are split in our opinion of him. Some see him as a father figure to Darien and to others he is much more sinister. What is your opinion of the Official and how he treats Darien?

Eddie-Jones: I think he is definately a father figure.

Eddie-Jones: But a father figure of a very dysfunctional family

Eddie-Jones: His way of handling Darien, the official wants to take care of his job, that being motivated by an extreme Darian.

Eddie-Jones: He does care for Darian, but he'll never let him know unless in an extreme situation.

Eddie-Jones: He is like the father of a rebelous kid.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <GinaS> to <Moderator>: What, for you, are the pros and cons of filming episodic television as opposed to film?

Moderator: A remionder. We're chatting with actor Eddie Jones, co-star of SCIFI's original series The Invisible Man. This is a moderated chat. Please send your questions for our guests to me, Moderator, as private messages. (To send a private message, either double-click on my name or type "/msg Moderator" on the command line - only without the quotes.)

Eddie-Jones: Well, the pros would be the nature of tv, that it is a neccisty we have some room for some spontanaiety arising out of that situation, which can be taped.

Eddie-Jones: The con would be, film taking the time and having the time to really develop the situation, and develop the charachter

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Eddie, many people are curious as to how you got your start in acting, and when you knew that you wanted to perform?

Eddie-Jones: Well a long time ago, I finished High School, and my family didn't have any money

Eddie-Jones: An I hitch hiked to California

Eddie-Jones: To go to school, cause at that time, if you werre a resident in california you could go for free.

Eddie-Jones: I was working at a service station, an a friend of mine was in an acting class, and he asked me to join him

Eddie-Jones: And, I did.

Eddie-Jones: An that following spring, went to Summerstock, and knowing absolutely nothing about the theatre

Eddie-Jones: The second play i saw, I was in, and we did 25 shows, in 26 weeks.

Eddie-Jones: And, the role had sold me on being an actor.

Eddie-Jones: Morgan in "The Corn is Green"

Eddie-Jones: That's how I started.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <dsdlvsjoc> to <Moderator>: we got a very brief glimpse of bobbys personal life, and a bit better look at the keeper's. we see darien's all the time. will we ever be among the proveleged to "go home" wth the opfficial?

Eddie-Jones: Well it seems, that I doubt if we ever see too much of the Officials personal Life, although there are a few hints in Cat & Canary

Eddie-Jones: And his name was mentioned once, and that name was Charlie Borden.

Eddie-Jones: But as far as I'm concerned it was just one more alias.

Eddie-Jones: I'm sure he's a guy that has at least six or seven social security cards.

Eddie-Jones: He's a conundrum wrapped in an enigma.

Eddie-Jones: I certainly wouldn't mind taking you all home with the Official, but I don't think it's going to happen

Eddie-Jones: You can imagine what dinner with the Official would be.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Eddie, many people are asking if you have a favorite episode of I-Man thus far? And if so, why?

Moderator: A remionder. We're chatting with actor Eddie Jones, co-star of SCIFI's original series The Invisible Man. This is a moderated chat. Please send your questions for our guests to me, Moderator, as private messages. (To send a private message, either double-click on my name or type "/msg Moderator" on the command line - only without the quotes.)

Eddie-Jones: I have several favorite episodes, i just havn't decided what i like the most.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Helena> to <Moderator>: Without giving away any secrets, what is your take on the Eberts-Official relationship. Personally, I think Eberts is his nephew.

Eddie-Jones: *Cat an Canary should have been Cat and Mouses*

Eddie-Jones: I love that thought.

Eddie-Jones: I don't think Mike an I discussed it, I don't think he's my nephew, but he might as well be my nephewe.

Eddie-Jones: That's an interesting question.

Eddie-Jones: Whatever it is, our relationship seems to be "working", maybe i shouldn't answer like this, perhaps I should discuss it with mike

Eddie-Jones: I think i'm sort of his Hero.

Eddie-Jones: In hiring him, I was buying a cheap bueracrat for practically no money.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Many people are asking what if anything you can hint about the next group of episodes? Story lines to look forward to etc?

Eddie-Jones: I really shouldn't divulge what is yet to come.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Amber117> to <Moderator>: Hello! I'm totally in love with the show! If you could switch places with one of the characters on the show who would it be and why?

Eddie-Jones: Ah well I would like to switch with all three.

Eddie-Jones: Including the keeper, just too find out what it's like to be in her skin, or hodges skin in paticalur

Eddie-Jones: Darian, no I'm more interested in hobbs or the keeper, play a girl.

Eddie-Jones: The English is sophisticated, an terribly smart, and terribly terribly terribly paranoid, and fast with a gun. That would be interesting.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <ZombieTongue> to <Moderator>: how much time do you have to shoot an episode?

Eddie-Jones: Our episodes are shot in seven working days.

Eddie-Jones: Very long days.

Eddie-Jones: Occasionally they have to do another day.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <NIteOwl03> to <Moderator>: If you weren't doing IMan and could have someone write the perfect part for you in television or film, what would it be?

Moderator: A reminder.

Eddie-Jones: One of the first things that comes to mind, is the production of Death of a Salesman about 20 years ago

Eddie-Jones: Now that i'm old enough to do the part, i'd like to do a production of that.

Eddie-Jones: There is a current production Brian Dohny that is pretty good.

Eddie-Jones: That's the first thing that comes to mind.

Eddie-Jones: Perhaps something like the Father in Long days' journey into night.

Eddie-Jones: Good question, thank you.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Death of a Salesman, or The Iceman Cometh seem to be the "classic" at a certain stage in a career

Moderator: <DrMel> to <Moderator>: Eddie, What is your reaction to all of the many fans you guys have? Does it scare you how much people love your show?

Eddie-Jones: It's very gratifying, I know it's especially gratifying to Vinny an Paul, and Shannon.

Eddie-Jones: They just love it that you guys love it, and so do i.

Eddie-Jones: It's exciting, we just hope we can sustain and improve.

Eddie-Jones: I think we have a unique opportunity to take this kind of venue and give it a really good perk.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Spud> to <Moderator>: okay, i have a question: If there was to be a kareoke scene, what would the Official sing and why? This is my obsession in the chatrooms about karaeoke

Eddie-Jones: the first thing that comes to mind is God Bless America, or the Marine Corp Hymn.

Eddie-Jones: And if he's had a few drinks it would definately be some Sinatra.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Eddie-Jones: That was a great question.

Moderator: Several people wonder...Will any of the cast members be directing or writing future episodes?

Eddie-Jones: Yea i would imagine so.

Eddie-Jones: Not me.

Eddie-Jones: It wouldn't suprise me if Vinny or Paul would do as such, I don't know about Shannon, I certainly haven't, but my Wife has directed.

Eddie-Jones: My wife, Anita is going to India to direct. I don't know if this of any interest to you. =)

Moderator: What's she directiung?

Eddie-Jones: I also belong to a theatre group in LA, the website www.interacttheatre.net

Eddie-Jones: She's directing a new play.

Moderator: Wow. In India. That'll be a genuien adventure. There are certainly many fine actors there

Eddie-Jones: The title is the Birds have not come back Vedanthangal This year.

Eddie-Jones: So she's going to Madras.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Doretta78> to <Moderator>: Is there a physical address where "us fans" can write to the cast? It's been hard to find one.

Eddie-Jones: I don't know offhand, Stu Segal Studios in San Diego/Invisible man.

Eddie-Jones: I don't know the exact address offhand.

Eddie-Jones: It's on Ruffin Rd.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Several audience members wonder how working on Invisible Man differs from your work on Lois and Clark?

Eddie-Jones: Well i think the character in Louis and Clark, was more surcumscribed

Eddie-Jones: Where as the Official will have more opportunity for a wider range of facets

Eddie-Jones: More interesting.

Eddie-Jones: Someone with a lil more acid in him is more fun to play.

Eddie-Jones: The exact address is 4705 Ruffin Rd, San Diego, CA 92123

Eddie-Jones: Next question.

Moderator: forevergone04> to <Moderator>: Can you relate in any way to the Official? Are you at all like him?

Moderator: A reminder.

Eddie-Jones: Yes, I can relate to him pretty strongy in some areas.

Eddie-Jones: Especially in his wanting to do the right thing.

Eddie-Jones: That aspect I strongy relate to him.

Eddie-Jones: He penny pinching, and manipulative aspects of his character are nothing that comes easily to me.

Eddie-Jones: Well the character can be expanded as I expand in the role, so yes I can relate to him.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <JCraze> to <Moderator>: As the show goes on, do you think that the official and Darian's relationship will become more trusting?

Eddie-Jones: I think what will happen, i don't know the scope of the plan of the writers, my instinct is that there will be times it will be more trusting, and for whatever reason they will go back to non-trusting.

Eddie-Jones: Especially on Darian's part. It's almost built into the whole idea of the show.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: Several people to what extent you see the show as a parody of the action/suspense/ spy genre, rathere like Man From U>NC.L.E was a generation ago?

Eddie-Jones: Yes, i think there is an aspect of that.

Eddie-Jones: But my prime concern is to take the whole situation seriously, it is a slight send up of all of the above, hopefully in a subtle way, and hopefully in a humorous way.

Eddie-Jones: For an example we had a couple of shows "your missison if you choose to accept it" parody.

Eddie-Jones: It was kind of an inside joke.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <drgorman> to <Moderator>: Do you think that the Offical will ever give Hobbes his raise?

Eddie-Jones: Maybe i'll buy him an Ice Cream cone if he does a good job.

Eddie-Jones: I don't think it's going to happen, even if i gave him the raise he'd still want another one.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Doretta78> to <Moderator>: Where was the "Chinese Embassy" you shot at during Cat and Mouse?

Eddie-Jones: It was a catholic girls school in San Diego, a Seminary or a catholic girls school in San Diego up on the hill

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Spud> to <Moderator>: Will there ever be a casual day at the office for the Official and Eberts?

Eddie-Jones: I would liek to add to a couple of questions ago, that the whole group has begun to learn to trust each other.

Eddie-Jones: I forget which episode, but they were watching a soap together, that's as far as any casual day would be. I don't know what the casual day would be, it's humorous to think about.

Eddie-Jones: Maybe they play cribbage.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <Danial> to <Moderator>: What was it like working on a classic noir story like The Grifters? (My favorite movie!)

Eddie-Jones: What a nice question.

Eddie-Jones: I'm glad that is one of your favorite movies.

Eddie-Jones: It was one of those several days that i worked that everything seemed to go swimmingly well. It was easy and went quick, we did it in just a couple of takes. An then it was over, it was easy, and it felt good.

Eddie-Jones: I'm really glad that is your favorite movie.

Eddie-Jones: I think John Cussak of the outstanding actors of the past 20 years.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <GinaS> to <Moderator>: Have there been any lines, props, or costars :) that really gave you trouble?

Eddie-Jones: Props, not for me.

Eddie-Jones: Co-star, not for me, but I think there may have been a few edgy moments for Paul or Victor

Eddie-Jones: I don't even think that is true.

Eddie-Jones: I don't think that there has been any co-stars that have been a problem.

Eddie-Jones: Course my wife co-stars sometimes, and she's a problem =) *kidding*

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: The Official knows a lot of people in high places. Do you see any conspiracies in his past, present or future?

Eddie-Jones: My thoughts about the official is that he's been everywhere, and done everything

Eddie-Jones: And he does know a lot about things.

Eddie-Jones: There was once hint around that he knew who really shot JFK.

Eddie-Jones: As you notice i'm shaking hands with Kennedy when I was a young man. I think he has files on just about everybody.

Eddie-Jones: And he was enormously effective at one time in an agency like the CIA.

Eddie-Jones: Very covert.

Eddie-Jones: Next question please.

Moderator: <ArnaudSupportGroup> to <Moderator>: To Eddie: Currently there is an SSES (secret society of evil scientists) supporting Arnaud. Will you as the official, try to stop us from taking over the world with Swiss Cheese and Hairdryers (which is what the name "Arnaud" means)?

Moderator: Join us tomorrow eveing for the second in our series of Invisible Man chats when our guest will be I-Man "Keeper" actress Shannon Kelly.

Eddie-Jones: I shall fight you to the death you swiss cheese and hair dryer efficinados...

Eddie-Jones: You dastardly coward.

Eddie-Jones: =)

Moderator: Eddie, you've been a marvelous guest. And the time has flown past. We like to close with this question... What advice do you give to others who aspire to become actors?

Eddie-Jones: I would suggest going to a good college, like Yale or of that elk. But if that isn't available to you there are good teachers who have like two year courses that you can go to.

Eddie-Jones: You just drop out of whatevewr you're doing an just study and work on acting.

Eddie-Jones: Don't be doing both at the same time.

Eddie-Jones: There is a certain hunger that helps, more in the terms of what you want to do rather than what you must do.

Eddie-Jones: Thank you for all of your support, and I hope we can continue

Moderator: Eddie, thanks so much for joining us. And we really hope that we can twist your arm and get you to come back again! And thanks to our audience to for your great questions. We'll see you tomorrow!

Eddie-Jones: I hope we give you lots of fun things to look at and enjoy.

Moderator: We're sure you will! Good night!

Moderator: And now everybody...We'll open the floor
